Moroccan openwork brass lighting diffusing a warm light

A Moroccan light fixture isn't just for lighting. Through chiseled metal and plays of shadow, it transforms walls and adds relief to the space. An imposing pendant lamp, a discreet sconce, or a small lantern: the right model depends on the room, the available height, and the effect you're after.

The main types of Moroccan lighting

The pendant lamp suits the living room, entryway, or above a table, drawing the eye immediately. The wall sconce frees up floor space and highlights a hallway, headboard, or alcove. The tabletop lantern creates a mobile point of light on a console or a sheltered terrace. Finally, a cluster of pendant lamps in varying sizes can beautifully frame a stairwell.

Adapting proportions to the room

A light fixture that is too small gets lost in a large volume, while one that is too wide obstructs movement. Above a table, keep a comfortable clearance so it doesn't block the line of sight. In an entryway or walkway, check the ceiling height and the chain length. Grouping several smaller fixtures works especially well when the heights are intentionally varied.

Brass, copper, or patinated metal?

Brass brings a golden, warm note. Copper evolves over time and develops a deep patina. A dark metal creates a graphic contrast in a light decor. Whatever the choice, handcrafted work is recognizable by its slightly varied perforations and finishes, signs of manual craftsmanship.

Choosing the light temperature

For an enveloping atmosphere, choose a warm white bulb, generally between 2,200 and 2,700 kelvins. A clear bulb reveals the projected motifs better; colored glass produces more decorative light. A dimmable LED bulb lets you adjust the intensity for dinner, reading, or relaxation.

Creating layered lighting

A pleasant room combines three functions: general light for moving around, focused light for reading or working, and ambient light. The Moroccan light fixture excels at that last function. Pair it with a more direct lamp to preserve visual comfort.

Installation et entretien

Have the wiring of a pendant lamp or wall sconce handled by a qualified professional and check the product's electrical compatibility with your country. Dust the metal with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive products, which could alter the patina or scratch the surface.

Creates ambiance without overwhelming

A single artisanal light fixture can be enough to define a room. Leave space around it and echo its finish with a discreet accent — a handle, tray, or frame — to create continuity. You'll get a contemporary Moroccan atmosphere that's warm and easy to live in.
